Cultural Resumes
Recently students took time with their parents help to learn more about their cultural backgrounds. Then they presented the information to their classmates as part of our Global Gateway Schools VIF module. The students learned that their classmates come from many backgrounds. They eat different foods and celebrate different holidays. They have different values and beliefs. Students in our class have family in many places around the world.

Hi Roadrunners
How lucky you are to have such interesting and culturally diverse classmates to learn from – your classroom really is a melting pot of different cultures! It fits really well with your international learning, as well as the book you are reading, doesn’t it? I was very impressed with the research you have done at home, and your confidence to come up and speak in front of your class, which is not an easy thing to do – especially without notes to read, as some of you managed!
I hope you enjoyed finding out a little bit more about your family backgrounds, it is always very interesting, isn’t it? My maiden name (the name I had before I was married) is Welsh, which is where my father’s family originally came from. My husband is Scottish, but his ancestors came to Scotland from Ireland. So my kids are a little bit Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English – making them truly British, I suppose!
Did you find out anything you didn’t know when you started asking about your families?
