Technology Takes Us Around the World
This year with the help of technology second graders have traveled around the world. We’ve gone on virtual field trips, skyped, blogged, played games, researched about other people and places and learned so much from friends around the world. We’ve collaborated on projects, read the same books, and learned about others. We continue to meet new friends from all areas of the world.

Hi Roadrunners!
What a lot of work you’ve been doing on finding out about your world – well done! I wonder which part of your ‘travelling’ you have enjoyed most? How do you like to learn? What makes your learning interesting, and helps you to remember it? It’s great that your learning has taken so many different forms, you are lucky to have a teacher who is so keen to help you find out about your world in so many different ways! Keep up the good work!

This post illustrates very well the breadth of learning possibilities through IT. You guys put a lot of effort into what you do and your experience of working with others has clearly boosted your confidence.
Are you going to be involved in The Snail and the Whale project?

We are also doing Flat Stanley with some schools. So we are busy doing lots of things.

Kia Ora Roadrunners!
Wow! You are doing a lot of amazing work in your classroom with technology. I really enjoyed watching your video. It is great to see what other schools in our county are doing as well.
Would you be keen to skype? It would be great for my class to skype another school in our county and to share what we have been learning in our classes.
Keep up the great work!

Hello,
Thank you. We are lucky to have several pieces of technology for our classrooms. I am trying to use it a lot. We have made some wonderful connections around the world. It’s been a lot of fun checking in on different blog sites. We don’t always have the time to reply to them all but do try to occassionally make comments. The students love collecting flags from other places and calculating how many more visitors we need to get to certain numbers. They enjoy when other people have made comments too. There are others we have a lot of contact with doing projects.
If I remember correctly you are one of the VIF teachers in Union County and from New Zealand because I’ve seen your name on a New Zealand school blog site.
We’d love to skype with you. I’m not sure I can this week because I have a couple of projects going with other schools. Flat Stanley and a skype with England I think. I will check about it. Which school are you at?

Yes I am a VIF teacher at New Town Elementary. There is no rush whenever we can schedule a time that will suit us both. I’ll email you and we can go from there.
