Not enough information?

We did further investigation and can tell you that we didn’t give enough information as to our location.  With so many Rocky River schools we decided you would need to know the county since they all were in different counties.  We are located in Union County.  Warning…… Be careful though there is an Union County, North Carolina and South Carolina.

We  are located in one of the 100 counties in North Carolina.  Virginia is to the north, Tennessee is to the west and South Carolina is to the south.  Georgia is the fourth state that borders us to the southwest.

More about our location..  Locate us on google maps.  Hints…… Look for Monroe, North  Carolina, Union County or Rocky River Elementary School

  •  Did you find us?
  •  What can you tell us about the area we live in from google maps?
  •  Is it rural, suburban or urban?  What do you see nearby?
  • Are we close to the ocean?

There are 3 regions  Mountains, Piedmont and Coastal Plains.  We are learning about the mountain region now.  Can you find the answers to these questions?  If so let us know.

  • How does our mountain region compare to other places in the world?
  • What can you do there?
  • What places can you see?
  • What are the names of our oldest river, highest mountain, and  highest waterfall?
  • Why did the early settlers settle in the mountain region?
  • Where did they come from originally?
  • What makes the mountains of NC a tourist destination for world travelers?

  1. We are old blogging friends and I will share your location with our class. I think that there are some similarities with us being so close to national parks and in a rural region.

We’d be interested in learning more about the type of community that you live in thinking about jobs and what the parents of the students in your community do. What for instance is your area primary industry? Here in New Zealand we are 95% involved in dairy farming.

    • Mr. Webb and Room One,
We are a rural community with the largest city in North Carolina about 30 minutes away. The small town of Monroe is about 10 minutes. There is a small airport about 2 minutes away and several industries on airport road. There are several aerospace businesses within a short drive. The school system employees many people. Our parents work in the health care profession, manufacturing, lawn and garden (landscapers)- Lowes stores, Wal-Mart, at nearby restaurants. We have some horses and cattle nearby. There are lots of chickens.
      The top employers are

In the Charlotte area there are many sports teams, restaurants, shops, museums, Carowinds (theme park), white water center. It has lots of banking (financial institutions)
We are about 2 hours- 3 hours from the mountains and about 3 hours to the beach.

  2. Thats interesting, if we were to do the same comparison I would think that in my classroom of thirty students we’d struggle to make it past ten as nearly everyone is involved in farming in some capacity – dairy farming as we’ve mentioned. We are ten minutes from the ocean and ten minutes from an active volcano (active in the sense it hasn’t erupted since 1866) which has a snow field on it in winter, so we are very lucky with the lifestyle here.
